The process

How it works

Start it yourself in about five minutes. No upfront cost, no contract, and you see the finished site before you decide anything.

  1. 1

    Tell us about your business.

Four questions, in your own words, from wherever you are. Most people finish in about five minutes. No call to book, no visit to schedule.

  2. 2

We research and build the whole thing.

Not a mockup or a template preview. A complete website with your name, hours, services, and photos, usually finished in about ten minutes.

  3. 3

You look at the finished site.

On your own time, on your own phone. Nothing has been paid at this point and nothing is public yet.

  4. 4

    Keep it, or walk away.

If you keep it, the monthly plan starts and we put it online. If you do not, you owe nothing and that is the end of it.

  5. 5

Ask for changes in plain words.

New hours, a price, fresh photos, a holiday closing. Ask and it happens, and you see the change before it goes live. That is part of the plan.

The honest part

No upfront cost. No contract. Cancel anytime. Your domain is registered in your name from day one, so the address is yours to keep no matter what happens between us.

If you would rather do this face to face, that still happens. We are on this shore and we are happy to sit down with you. The difference is that you no longer have to wait for us to find you.

Questions people ask

What's the catch?
There isn't one you'll regret. We build the site for free. We're betting it'll be good enough that you'll want us to host and maintain it for a small monthly fee. If we're wrong, you owe us nothing, and you keep your domain.
I already have a Facebook page. Isn't that enough?
A Facebook page isn't a website. It doesn't show up well on Google. You don't own it. And anyone who isn't on Facebook can't really find you. A real site works for everyone searching for what you do, and you own it.
Can I update the site myself, or do you do it?
You ask, it happens. Send the change in plain words: new hours, a price, fresh photos, a holiday closing. Our AI harbormaster handles it, usually within minutes, and on the Harbormaster + Crew plan a person reviews the work too. No logins to remember, no dashboard to learn.
What does it cost after the free build?
Two plans. Harbormaster is $89 a month: hosting, SSL, security, updates whenever you ask, and ongoing tuning so you show up in searches and in AI assistant answers. Harbormaster + Crew is $179 a month and adds human review of the work, priority support, and an optional monthly check-in. No contracts either way.
Do I get email at my business domain?
Yes. Every plan includes forwarding: [email protected] delivers straight into the inbox you already read, set up in minutes. Replies show your old address, so if you want full mailboxes that send as your domain, we set those up with you too: budget options that run about a dollar a month, or Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace with our team handling the technical parts.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep your domain, and we hand off your site cleanly. No holding your web address hostage, no exit fee. We'd rather part as neighbors.
Who actually builds and runs it?
Harborlight is family-owned and family-run, based in West Michigan. The building and the daily updates are done by AI that we operate and stand behind, and on the Harbormaster + Crew plan a member of our team personally reviews the work and checks in with you.
What AI actually runs my website?
Several of the leading models, not one chatbot. We use premier AI from multiple labs, including Anthropic's Claude and xAI's Grok, each doing the job it's best at: one designs and writes, one reads photos and menus, one researches your market, and one critiques the finished pages with fresh eyes. We pay for the best because the output is your storefront.
Is my website secure?
Yes. Every site we host runs on Cloudflare's global network, the same infrastructure that protects millions of the world's busiest sites. That means SSL encryption (the padlock in the browser), protection against attacks, and fast loading from servers near your customers. It's included in every plan, and every version of your site is saved, so nothing is ever lost.
